Tiwi now

In March 2016 the French cruise ship Le Soléal was the first international liner to drop anchor at a remote community on the Tiwi Islands. After struggling to make the narrow Apsley Strait between the islands, the ship had to anchor a few hundred metres from shore, with small boats “delivering hundreds of high-end tourists hunting for art and unique experience” to the community of Wurrumiyanga (formerly Nguiu) on Bathurst Island. Art sales from the visit were anticipated to reach $250,000.
