The Fork in the Road: Art for Profit or not for Profit?

It has been said that one of the problems facing the arts in Australia is that there are simply not enough millionaires to go around. Sometimes this is taken to mean not enough millionaire philanthropists. On other occasions the remark is made as a way of explaining why it is so tough to make a living in the visual arts - a few more millionaire collectors wouldn't go astray, particularly at the contemporary end of the market.
