The Ideal Gallery: If Pigs Could Fly
In 2001 the National Association of the Visual Arts (NAVA) published a new code of practice, The Code of Practice for the Australian Visual Arts and Craft Sector: Visual Arts Industry Guidelines Project 2001 http://visualarts.net.au/pa/menue08.asp]. This research was the result of a major project funded in part by the Australian Research Council. Many practitioners, curators, dealers, administrators and critics were interviewed and the resulting code establishes a series of guiding principles for the arts industry. The clear aim is to discover practices that will fairly deal with all parties involved in creating, exhibiting, buying and selling art.
