Backing Winners
The level of corporate and private support for the arts in Australia has increased over the last three decades. The ABS Survey of 1999-2000 gives an aggregate figure of $80.3 million - an increase of 6% since the Australia Council's Corporate Support for the Arts (1996) noted that the value that year was $65 million. That report also noted that 11 % of businesses now support the arts and that large companies continue to be the strongest supporters. The lack of consistent and comparative data however makes it difficult to determine the reasons for these increases.
