The Funhouse Mirror of Televisual Satire
Surveying the contemporary televisual landscape, it would initially appear that the visual art and craft sector is sorely underrepresented. On the small screen, feel-good shows like Portrait Artist of the Year (2013–) and Anh’s Brush with Fame (2016–21) are light-hearted and uplifting. In terms of dedicated critical examinations of our industry in popular culture, we are generally left wanting. However, an incisive view of the art world can be found running through some of Australia’s most beloved satirical comedies.
