Regional Focus: SA’s Limestone Coast

The term Limestone Coast was developed by the South Australian government and tourism industry in the early 2000s to promote wine, food, agriculture and a range of cultural tourism destinations in the southeast of the state. Social and cultural keeping places have a wide scope in the regions: the Sheep’s Back Museum (in Naracoorte) and the Bob Hawke Gallery (in Bordertown) give the game away, and there are a number of regional art galleries with creative agendas to attract local and outside audiences while staying true to their immediate contexts. This essay focuses on three, located on a north- south axis parallel to the state border: The Riddoch Arts and Cultural Centre at Mt Gambier, Naracoorte Regional Art Gallery and The Walkway Gallery in Bordertown.
