Careful darling: Elizabeth Day and Gabriella Hirst

The Atom Bomb rose has a cold history. It was engineered at the start of the Cold War by the German rose breeder Reimer Kordes, but is no longer in widespread cultivation. Born at the end of the Cold War, Gabriella Hirst is working to revive it. How to Make a Bomb (2015–) promotes the propagation of the Atom Bomb Rosa floribunda through collective actions.[1] With the rose as its protagonist, Hirst’s work is a geopolitical gardening project that attends to our collective histories.
