Arthur Pambegan Junior (1936-2010)
Renowned painter, sculptor and senior songman for the Winchanam clan of the Wik people in far north Queensland, Arthur Pambegan Junior was my dear friend and artistic collaborator. It was with a sad heart that in the early hours of 13th December 2010, I awoke to a call from Gina Bowenda, Arthur's granddaughter (whom I know as my sister). Just a few weeks earlier Arthur had been working with me in Brisbane when he’d been hospitalised with pneumonia. It was not the first time and so I knew that the news was not going to be good. There was only silence on the other end of the phone. I whispered to my sister that I was sorry and my thoughts were with her and her family.
