2001 eco-calendar: art events addressing ecological issues
RIVERBANK The banks of the Georges River at the site of the Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre have a long and intricate history. They began as an Aboriginal meeting place, and then became the 'pleasure gardens' of migrant communities, and were finally fenced off after World War II to build a power station. The Casula Powerhouse is working with Liverpool Council to regain access to the River for the people of Western Sydney, while creating a recreation area in which these histories are acknowledged through works of contemporary art. Together with various revegetation works, cycleways etc, three public art commissions will be integrated into the site.
